Amazon Mechanical Turk Review

amazon mechanical turk reviewOver the last few months I have been hearing a lot about Amazon Mechanical Turk and about how folks are earning money using this system. So I decided to go ahead and check it out myself in order to see if it is a legitimate way to make money. And now I am here writing a review for you.

First of all let me explain to you what Amazon Mechanical Turk is all about. Amazon Turk, Also known a MTurk is a place where people can hire workers to do small jobs for a small amount of money and Requester’s can get work done for a very low cost.

Here is an example of how it works. Let’s say you need to write a 300 word article for your website but you don’t have the time to do it. If you wanted to, you would create a HIT (Human Intelligence Task) and hire someone to do it for you. You may offer to pay someone $4 for completing the task. When the HIT is completed, you will pay the worker for completing the job.

Explanation of Mechanical Turk Worker:

Anyone can be a worker for most tasks. However, many tasks you can only qualify for after you have completed a certain amount of tasks prior or you can prove that you are qualified to complete the task. The process of becoming a worker is easy, especially if you have an amazon account. Simply join MTurk and find a task that appeals to you. Then complete the task and earn money.

Once you have earnings, you have two options. The first is to simply transfer the money to your Amazon Payments account. Or you can transfer your money to an Amazon.com gift card.

Explanation of Mechanical Turk Requesters

Anyone can ask workers to complete hits. All you need to do is fund your account, load your task and get results.

I joined the site as a worker 3 weeks ago. I went on the site and was able to find a few jobs that were really easy to do. So I tried it out. There are all sorts of things you can do for payments of 1 cent all the way up to over $10 dollars. I discovered pretty quickly that the jobs that pay more tend to take longer. And the cheap ones don’t take as long. But you really need to consider how long it will take you to do a task, verses the amount paid. I find that I am happiest with the tasks that are around $1 and only take 5 to 10 minutes.

Overall I have to tell you that I was pretty pleased with Amazon Mechanical Turk and feel that it is a 100% legitimate way to earn a few extra bucks a month.

However, if you are wanting to quit your job, it will never happen. There simply isn’t enough Hits to keep you busy enough to make a full-time living. A better option for a work from home business would be to build your own Website and become an affiliate marketer.

But I think if you want some extra cash flow to pay for web hosting or some online expenses, you can easily earn a couple bucks in a few hours.

While I was testing the site, I only made a commitment to only do an hour or less every day and I made over $10 in one week. It isn’t much, but it proved to me that this works and you can generate some extra cash. Actually I really enjoyed and had fun doing the hits. My favorite ones were the surveys.

If you have any questions about MTurk or anything at all, feel free to ask in the comment section below.

    Hi Wendy!

I’m a little bit jealous! ‘Sharin how I’m doin it’ is how I want to do it – you beat me to it!

I think your site is inspirational for anyone wanting to make money online and a good educational resource.

I was wondering how many hours a day you have to put in for your $35?

Kind regards and all the best for 2016!
    JJ

Hi JJ! I actually only work online about 1 or two hours a day. When I’m off from my day job I spend a little bit more time. Most of the income I bring in online is residual. Meaning, I earn money daily from work that I did in the past. I earn when people buy products through affiliate marketing link on my websites. Amazon Turk is more of a hobby for me. I like to do surveys at night while watching tv. It is fun and the extra cash nice.

Awesome review on Amazon Mechanical Turk. I agree this is a great find for people looking to make a few extra bucks a month but definitely not a means to make a steady income or support a lifestyle. Interestingly there is a lot people can do online to make money but not too many people know how to go about finding good opportunities like the ones you have listed on your site. This site is definitely useful to anyone trying to make a living online. Keep up the good work, will definitely stick around.

I’m glad you found it helpful Mimi. And really that is my goal, to show people some of the different ways to make money online. But more importantly to know that they can do it. I have to tell you though, it surprises me how many people want to make money, learn how to do it, but never take action. I think a lot of it is fear. But really, earning extra money to help supplement your income is easier than most people realize. Like you said, Mturk is great for some extra cash, but for a more significant income, I suggest building websites and doing affiliate marketing.

Wow, $10 from only 7 hours of work. I would love that extra cash and I can happily do surveys 🙂 You think there’s any country restriction for those that can join? And this might be a silly question but will the Amazon Payments account transfer the money to a PayPal account? Thanks!

      Hi JeAnn,

I would think that you could do way more than $10 in 7 hours. But I agree with you that the extra cash is pretty cool. I have been doing mturk for a few months now, and realized that the more tasks you do the more higher paying jobs you qualify for. So the more you do the better it gets. Most of the hits I do now average out to be around $8 to $10 an hour.

There are many countries. I do notice the main thing is that you speak and write english well.

Amazon doesn’t do PayPal because Paypal is owned by eBay. And since they are Amazons competition, that is the main reason why. But it is pretty easy to connect your bank account to amazon or you can request a check as well. I have my checking account connected and find that when I request money, it is in my account within 24 hours. I usually let my earning add up and save it for when I need some extra play money. 🙂

    Thanks for this great review!

While I do not currently do work on mTurk, I currently have been doing jobs on UHRS from clickworker. It’s basically the same hit completion system.

The pay is great. I have been making quite a bit from my time with them, but the work can be scarce at times.

I’ve heard that mTurk pays less, but it does have more jobs available. Sadly, they never verified my account, so I was never able to give them a test-drive. 🙁

I wonder if you can try to get verified again? Sorry to hear that it didn’t work out.
