Stay Focused and Avoid Distractions

One of the biggest problems I have as an affiliate marketer is keeping focused on the task at hand. Yes, I’m an affiliate marketer, but I’m also a Mom who works full time as a manager. So when it comes to my business I need to really focus on completing my “money making” tasks. Efficiency is really important for me in order to get things done.

Often I only have an hour or two in the morning before I need to get to my day job. So it is really important that I am focused on the tasks that impact my business the most. These are the tasks that make me money.

But like many affiliate marketers I find that it is really easy to get distracted and lose my focus. So I wanted to share with you how I stay focused and avoid distractions.

But first, I wanted to give you an example of how easily I can get distracted.

The distracted affiliate marketer writing a simple 400 word article: This is how I used to do it…

I go to my website with the intention of clicking “add a new post. But I decide while I’m here, let me just quickly check out my stats. I see that I got some good traffic yesterday. And look they found my by clicking a keyword that i never thought of using. So I go to Jaaxy and do keyword research and find that this is a good keyword. So I decide to do a¬†Google¬†search to check out some of the other articles out there. While I’m doing this, I notice I have a new email. So I click on the email. And I notice that someone made a comment on one of my blogs. So I click it to read the comment and of course, I need to respond to the comment. So I respond. And while I’m here on the site, I may as well check the stats here…..and so on and so on….

Do you get the idea?

If I keep on going like this….I will totally forget about the original article that I wanted to post in the first place.

So if I want to be efficient and get things done so I can make money, I have to focus on the most important tasks first. Which in my case is getting out good quality content daily.

So this is what I do now, and it is keeping me focused…

I open my browser and go to Jaaxy and type in the topic of my article. Then I find a keyword with a good QSR and I open up Notepad.

I write my article in my own words.

Then I go to my website and make my blog post, add images and links. I make any changes I want to make and submit. I’m done in less than an hour many times.

Now that I’m done with that, I can go about doing all of the other important things like networking, niche research, product knowledge, checking statistics, helping others etc.

Oh and by the way, something I do while doing these tasks, is keep notepad open on my computer. This way I can write down any ideas or keywords that I want to research.

In conclusion, if you want to be successful in affiliate marketing you need to really be focused on the task at hand.

How about you? Do you find you are easily detracted with other not so urgent issues? If so, how do you deal with it? I would love to hear your ideas.

Best,

Wendy Krick

I am so distracted all the time. Three kids (one baby) and one with hyperactivity has me very distracted all the time. I can’t work in quiet because there is no such thing in this house.

Oh my gosh Lesley I can so much relate to that. My kids are older, but I remember those days. I remember for the longest time, I couldn’t work in quiet either. I say what ever works for you is great. As long as you are happy with what you are getting accomplished. Thanks for your comment.

I know what you mean, Sara. I’m the same way. I often do my best writing early in the morning before everyone else wakes up.
