My Review of Squidoo 2013

Name: Squidoo
Owners Name: Seth Godin
Price: FREE! 100% Free Site
Rating: 90 out of 100

squidooSquidoo is a free site where people can write about anything they want (for the most part) and earn money.

There are lots of advantages in writing at Squidoo. Here are some of them.

  1. Squidoo has Google adsense and infolinks on squidoo pages which earn money. The money earned is put into a sort of pool. Lensmasters each get a cut of the earnings based on the ranking of their lenses.
  2. There are sales modules(Amazon and eBay) that you can add to your page when someone buys something Squidoo get paid. They split the earnings with you 50/50.
  3. If you own a product, you can sell it on your Squidoo page and make money
  4. Writing on Squidoo and linking to your website can be an effective way to give your backlinks.
  5. You can write reviews and share your affiliate links on Squidoo.

Disadvantages of Squidoo:

  1. Since you don’t own your Squidoo sites, Squidoo can lock your lens or shut down anytime they want. Learn some of the risks of writing at Free Sites Like Squidoo.
  2. It takes a lot of time and effort to make money with Squidoo.

Here is my Squidoo story…

I’ve been writing on Squidoo for over 6 years and I have earned a nice income while doing so. I find that when I make a page at squidoo it is usually indexed with Google very quickly and I generally see traffic pretty quickly. By writing Reviews on my favorite Amazon products I earn a nice part time income with Squidoo and Amazon combined. My best month I earned just under $2000.

But keep in mind it take lots of time and work to make money on Squidoo. For example I have over 400 pages that have been writing over a 6 year period. So yes, it takes time.

So what do I think of Squidoo? I love it! I think for someone who has zero money but is willing to invest some time, Squidoo is a good option.

Online Graphing

I would recommend Squidoo to someone who is looking to earn a little bit of extra spending money or likes to write for a hobby. Squidoo is the perfect way for the total newbie to get their feet wet. Squidoo is easy and fun.

Since Writing this post, Squidoo has been sold to Hubpages.

Hubpages is a great place to write, although I personally think having your own self hosted WordPress Blog is better. But if you are more comfortable with a free community where you can share your content, then Hubpages may be a good option. Click here to learn more about Hubpages.

Ok, I admit it. I set up some Squidoo lenses about a year ago, and bailed after about 3 weeks. I’m going to tackle it again and am determined to follow through!

Squidoo is a great way to get started with affiliate Marketing. It’s fun and you can generate some extra cash. And eventually you should create your own sites as well.

    Hi Wendy

Thanks for this interesting post on Squidoo and I too have published some lenses over the recent years, but not many mind.

My lenses are focused on the holiday periods such as promoting artificial christmas trees with amazon and halloween costumes with commission junction. I must say that they have generated some big sales for me over those periods because I got them ranked on the first pages of google for specific keywords 🙂

Thank You for sharing your story.

It does take a lot of work and patience to earn on Squidoo. Learning about affiliate programs and SEO is a good start.
You can also create a free Zazzle store and place the links to your store on Squidoo, earning you money on two sites.

This lens helped me a lot:
(Please note that this is NOT my lens, but I fully recommend it).

Thanks for the info in this article.

Hi Wendy, I am a Wealthy Affiliate member, and I was reading some of your blogs, some of them as part of HubPages. What do you have to say about them?? Do you think it is worth joining to HubPages??

Hi Gilda! I haven’t been on Hubpages in ages. I’ve been putting most of my energy into my blog sites. But I used to make nice income with Amazon and made a bit with Google Adsense as well.

Squidoo is the absolute WORST affiliate experience I have had on the Internet. AVOID.
Some of the ads are theirs and some are yours… But, no specific algorithm for how that is executed is given. For all you know, the highest-profiting 40% are theirs and the remainder 60% are yours.
Also, all the squid, squid angel, and giant squid, etc. business creeps me out as a bit demonic.
And, I noticed my Christian dream interpretation articles virtually NEVER appear in search results on the site. But, the New Age ones get top listing.

I’m sorry you had a bad experience with Squidoo. At one time, before 2012 Squidoo was amazing for newbies. Now, like you, I don’t recommend squidoo to people who want to make money online. It just isn’t as effective as it used to be. You are so much better building your own WP website where you have total control. It is much easier then people realize. I usually suggest they start a free blog with siterubix (available at Wealthy Affiliate). This way they get the training and support as well. Have a great day!

I’ve always considered trying Squidoo because I heard of people doing very well. I just hate that I’m not in complete control, I rather create my website and not have to worry about my content getting unpublished.

And plus, it’s always the thought of rather or not Squidoo will always exist. I don’t want to invest time into something that I don’t even know will last. You know what I’m saying?
